Privacy

The short version

No accounts, no login, no ads and no analytics right now. The waitlist form isn’t connected yet, so nothing you type is sent or saved today. The safety checklist runs in your browser and saves nothing.

When the waitlist is connected

It will keep your email, your age range, the name you’d like us to use if you give one, the topics you pick, whether you’d like to hear about moderating, and your consent to hear from us. We’ll use it only to contact you about Melanated Community, won’t sell it, and this page will name the email service before the form goes live.

What we don’t ask for

The form doesn’t ask your race, your real name, where you live or your phone number.

Under 18

The forum is planned for adults. If we learn someone under 18 has joined the waitlist, we’ll delete their details and won’t email them.

Removal requests

If you ask us to take down an image, we use what you send only to find it, remove it and reply to you.

When the forum opens

Accounts, posts and private messages need their own privacy terms. We’ll publish them here before anyone can sign up.

Server logs

Ordinary server logs are kept a short time for security and fixing problems.

Analytics

None right now. When we add it, it’ll be open-source software on our own server, with no cookies and no stored IP address, and this section will name it.

Fonts

The typefaces are served from this site, so loading them doesn’t send your IP address to Google or any other font service.

Cookies

This site doesn’t set tracking or advertising cookies, so there’s no consent banner.

Your rights

Ask for a copy of what we have, a correction, or deletion, or unsubscribe anytime. No reason needed.

Why we use your information

• Email list: only with your consent, when you sign up. You can withdraw it anytime with the unsubscribe link in any email.
• Emails you send us: to read and answer them, because you asked us to.
• Server logs: to keep the site secure and working, which is our legitimate interest.

How long we keep it

• Email list: until you unsubscribe.
• Emails you send us: only as long as we need to reply and follow up.
• Server logs: a short time set by our web host, then deleted.

Who else handles it

Only our web host and our email list provider, once the list is connected. They may process data in the United States or other countries, under their own privacy terms. We don't sell or share your personal information, and we don't use it for targeted advertising.

What you can ask for

Depending on where you live, you can ask to see, correct, delete or move your information, object to or limit how we use it, and withdraw your consent at any time. Email hello@melanated.community and we’ll respond within one month. If you’re in the EU, the UK or Switzerland and you’re not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to your local data protection authority.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

We don’t track you across other websites, so every visit is treated the same whether or not your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal.
